11/15/2022 0 Comments Avg update popupI can’t blame them for wanting to make money! Still, screens like this irritate me. The AVG company should be congratulated for doing a wonderful thing for the world. Take a look at the way “avg.com” is highlighted in the address bar below:ĪVG’s free antivirus program provides quiet, adequate protection for most people against viruses and spyware. Internet Explorer 8 (the new version of IE) highlights the meaningful part of the web site name, making it harder to obscure the name in a bunch of other codes. Learn to look in the address bar to see if the name of the web site matches the page. When you click on “Download now,” you’ll be taken to AVG’s web site – and that’s the best indication that things are okay. The bad guys can spell “AVG” just as well as the real company! When you see an unexpected popup window onscreen, I want you to be skeptical and cautious. When a program runs an icon by the clock, I’m accustomed to a bubble in the lower right corner from that icon notifying me of an upgrade – just like AVG does when it’s getting virus definition updates. That’s not how I expect to be notified of a program upgrade. But let’s take a step back, because it reflects poor judgment on AVG’s part. I've always liked Avira Free Antivirus for it's fast performance and good protection and even bought the Pro version before for myself, now with these new changes like the Smart Scan it's been getting worse and I can't see myself recommending or using Avira's products anymore as much as before. If you’re running the free version of AVG antivirus, you may have seen a window appear unexpectedly in the middle of your screen. I can't understand why this feature which is not helpful at all is not optional or why there is no way to turn it OFF in the settings, please Avira in a future update make it so the Smart Scan can be toggled ON / OFF in the settings or even uninstalled if it's similar to the other optional features like Phantom VPN, System Speedup, Avira Game Booster etc. This new "Smart Scan" feature is useless and really annoying everytime it recommends me the same nonexistent fixes when there is nothing wrong to begin with, just like others have posted. I have been using Avira for almost 10 years now and always recommend it to my friends and family as it's a great free Antivirus compared to all others I've used, now that has changed. Like it was a few years ago before you started updating the "features". Something to run in the background, update, give me some options to automate detection scenarios. I've been using Avira since the AntivirXP days when Norton and NOD32 started doing exactly what you are doing now. Don't try to become the TuneUp Utilities of AV's. Invalid Registry keys that slow down my PC? Who gave you the right to scan it? Can you guarantee, 100%, that every single registry key that your app will delete, will be invalid/old/outdated? Of course not. Outdated drivers? Yes, Newer ones have little to no benefit. Also, 99.99999% of apps have their own integrated updaters, another one just complicates things. Outdated apps? Yes, Newer versions of apps are garbage so i will manually update when a version comes up that works properly. Newbies probably haven't even heard of Avira since they use McCrapfee becuase it's shoved down their throat by OEM. that's as simple as it was a few years ago. and even for that we want a way to NOT be notified and just have some default options. we don't want to be notified about anything other than a virus warning.
